Northeast Texas Children’s Museum offers a unique opportunity Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Commerce facility.
The museum will be hosting a two-hour “Brunch with Santa,” in which kids not only will have an opportunity to visit with Santa, but also to enjoy food, crafts, stories and music while raising funds to help support NETCM.
“
We’ve been hard at work putting the event together since our recent Mother-Son Pirate Night,” Sharline Freeman, the Museum’s executive director said. “I love Christmas-time and I can hardly wait to see the faces on all the children as they enjoy themselves.”
Brunch with Santa begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 and continues until noon. A fee of $7 per person in advance or $10 at the door covers all activities, including a picture with Santa.
Santa and Mrs. Claus invite children to bring their Christmas wish lists with them to share what they’d like to find under their tree. But kids should note, Santa will be checking to see who’s been naughty and who nice. Mike King, professional photographer, will be taking each child’s picture during their visit with the jolly old elf. While all get one photo free, parents will have the opportunity to purchase additional photos for an added charge.
“The morning is scheduled to be a fundraiser,” stated Alton Biggs, museum president. “However, I expect to watch the children’s faces as they talk with Santa and confide their wishes. The beaming faces will be priceless, and the extra income for the Museum will be secondary.”
An area Kiwanis Club is providing “pancakes supreme” with sausage and hot chocolate for brunch.
A children’s bell choir and children’s choir from two local churches will perform holiday music.
Jerry Biggs, a local actor best known for his role as Ray Suggs in “Lonesome Dove,” will read “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” to add to the holiday fun.
A crafts area will be set up allowing children to make Christmas items which they could give as gifts for their parents, siblings or other relatives.
Northeast Texas Children’s Museum is located in the Watson Center building of Texas A&M University-Commerce on State Highway 50 and Culver Street in Commerce. The museum serves children who are toddlers through sixth grade.
It welcomes children to imagine, be creative and build their confidence as they interact with exhibits that range from using math skills to social studies. As a non-profit organization, NETCM is always in need of volunteers and monetary donations.
