Parent orientation, meet the teacher sessions begin tonight at SSISD elementary, high school campuses

Sulphur Springs schools will be hosting parent orientation and meet the teacher nights over the course of the next two weeks, beginning tonight.

Tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, that is) parents of first graders should report to their child’s campus at 6:30 p.m. for the 30-minute parent orientation. Orientation for parents of second graders will be from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. tonight on the elementary campuses.

Also tonight, Sulphur Springs High School will hold Meet the Teacher Night from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Thursday night, the 30-minute orientation for parents of third graders begins at 6:30 p.m. Parents of fourth graders should report for orientation at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.

Sulphur Springs Middle School will host Meet the Teacher from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.

Douglas Intermediate School will hold at Title I Meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, to explain what Title I services are. Parent orientation will follow from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

These sessions let parents get better acquainted with their children’s teachers and also learn about the students’ daily schedules, school attendance/absence policies, class and school homework policies, curriculum, general dress code guidelines, discipline policies and procedures, grading systems, school calendars, testing programs for each grade level, grade requirements, student promotion, special reading programs, and scheduling parent/teacher conferences.

Parents also can learn about special teachers, services and classes such as music, physical education, Title I aide assistance, content mastery, Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, counselors, school nurses, and libraries.
