Eight-week GED courses to be offered at PJC-Sulphur Springs, ESL at Como-Pickton

Paris Junior College Adult Education and Family Literacy is ready to welcome students to an intensive GED (General Education Development) or ESL (English as a Second Language) program, according to Director Louisa Kessel.

Eight-week class sessions are scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 31 and will start again during the week of Oct. 26. The classes will be offered in Hopkins County, as well as Lamar and Delta counties.

Students may select the class day, time and location of the course they wish to attend. They simply come to that class at the location and time stated in the schedule.

GED and ESL classes are offered at no cost. However, participation and commitment to attend each class day are essential to help students accomplish their learning goals.

Sixteen-year-olds must provide a copy of the court order stating they are required to attend the Adult Education (GED) classes offered through Paris Junior College. Seventeen-year-olds must provide an official withdrawal from high school for class admission. Students must bring these documents to the first class or they will not gain entry into the program.

The GED and ESL classes will be offered at separate locations in Hopkins County.

GED classes will meet at the Paris Junior College-Sulphur Springs Center. Day classes are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday beginning Sept. 1, with the second eight-week session starting Oct. 27. Night classes will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm. each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, beginning on Aug. 31, with the next session starting on Oct. 26.

ESL classes will meet from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. in room 302 at Como-Pickton High School. The first class day is Sept. 8. Child care is provided.

The GED classes will be offered on the Paris Junior College campus from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, beginning on Sept. 1 and again on Oct. 27. These classes will be held in the Rheudasil Learning Center. Night classes will be available from 5:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, beginning Sept. 1 and again on Oct. 27.

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday starting on Aug. 31 and again on Oct. 26, in the Rheudasil Learning Center. Daytime ESL/Citizenship Classes meet at Justiss Elementary School with childcare provided from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, and begin on Sept. 14.

GED classes will be available from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cooper. The class meets each Monday and Thursday, starting on Sept. 14.
