Sulphur Springs Independent School District has designated two days next week for various activities such as registration, visiting campuses, meeting teachers and picking up schedules.

Registration for students at Early Childhood Learning Center had been ongoing throughout the summer and will continue until school starts during regular business hours at the school. Parent orientation at ECLC will be conducted from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, for pre-kindergarten, and Head Start 3 and 4, and from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday for kindergarten and transitional first.

New student registration at all four elementary campuses — Austin, Bowie, Lamar and Travis — will be conducted Friday, Aug. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Douglas Intermediate School, which houses only fifth grade students, will hold new student registration from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21.

Bowie, Lamar and Travis Elementary schools and Douglas Intermediate  have also designated times Friday for students to meet their teachers.

“This is a good opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teachers and  learn about class schedules and activities this year at each school,” said Betty Lawson, SSISD director of elementary education, about meet the teacher and parent orientation sessions.

Lamar students can meet their new teachers from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, while Travis teachers will be available to meet their new students from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bowie students can check in supplies and meet their teachers from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Douglas fifth graders will have an opportunity   to visit the campus and meet their teacher between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday. These are informal sessions so the student will become familiar with their teacher and class, to better speed up the first day of class.

Parent orientation for grades 1-2 will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the child’s campus. For grades 3-4 parent orientation will be conducted from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the elementary school. Douglas Intermediate will have parent orientation from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Eighth is the only grade level designated to pick up schedules on Thursday. They should report to Sulphur Springs Middle School cafeteria between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Thursday to get their schedules.

Sixth and seventh graders will be allowed to pick up their schedules Friday in SSMS cafeteria. Sixth graders can get theirs between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Friday. Seventh graders’ schedules may be picked up between 8:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Friday

Sulphur Springs High School also has designated specific times for students to drop by the school cafeteria to get their schedules. Freshmen should report between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Friday for orientation and to get their schedules. Grades 10-12 may pick up their schedules between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday.

In order to pick up schedules at any campus, students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Meet the teacher night will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at SSMS Monday, Sept. 14, and at SSHS Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Any new student unable to register during designated times should report to the school the first class day, Aug. 24, with their parent/guardian to fill out paperwork to register. All new students will be required to present up-to-date immunization records, birth certificates and Social Security cards
