Deadline to enter Cover Girl Contest is Friday, July 24

High school girls planning to participate in this year’s Fall Festival Cover Girl Contest are reminded they have less than a week to get registered to compete.

“The deadline is nearing and we need more girls to enter,” noted Tracy Dennis, Cover Girl coordinator. “So far we’ve only had two girls sign up. I believe many wait to the last minute due to prior commitments at camps and other activities during the summer. Friday’ll be here quick so those planning to compete need to get their stuff in.”

All applications must be completed and turned in at Hopkins County Regional Civic Center office no later than noon Friday, Jul 24. An informational meeting will be held Sunday, July 26, to brief girls on all the rules and ensure their commitment as well as that of their parents to the week-long scholarship contest.

In order to enter, each girl must be a Hopkins County resident, entering her junior year of high school, and must have maintained an overall B average during the 2008-2009 school year. She also must not have been in an in-school suspension program her sophomore year or in an alternative education program her  freshman or sophomore year.

Each contestant will be required to decorate a window in a downtown business, decorate a float to ride on in the parade, sell raffle tickets and participate in two days of various competitions such as: milking a cow, bottle feeding a calf, driving a tractor through an obstacle course, saddling and mounting a horse, cutting up a chicken, calf scramble, goat tying and roping a steer head.

Girls at county schools were given information packets at the end of school. Due to rules changes (available online at hopkinscountyfallfestival.com), they need to pick up a new registration packet from the Civic Center, return completed forms along with their $25 entry fee and clear, printable head-shot pictures to the Civic Center by noon Friday.

The winner will receive a $750 scholarship, a $100 Visa gift card and her picture will be on the cover of the 2010 Fall Festival catalog. The first runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship and a $75 Visa gift card, and the second runner-up gets a $50 Visa gift card.
