SSHS orchestra students win honors at camp

Five students from the Sulphur Springs High School orchestra program were seated among the top orchestra members at music camp, and another received an “outstanding” praise.

The camp, held at Sam Houston State University, required students to audition for parts. These students’ performances were of a high enough caliber that they earned seats in the top eight chairs of their section in the top orchestra.

Kade Eckhardt was also named outstanding cellist for the Chamber Orchestra.

Kade Gibson made eighth chair, cello; Kade Eckhardt, principal cellist; T.J. Livsey, second chair – first violin; Estrella Guzman, first chair – second violin; and Chris Duran, fourth chair – second violin.

Craig Needham, from Richardson’s Berkner High School, was the Chamber Orchestra’s guest conductor at the event. The local Sulphur Springs orchestra program is directed by of Rob Flickinger and Carol Deptula.
