Robert Alan McLarry died Friday evening in the hospital of the gunshot wound reportedly fired by his ex-wife, Kimberly McLarry, who was killed after firing a gun at law enforcement officers at her Yantis residence later Friday.

Around 9:45 a.m. Friday, Kimberly McLarry, 47, of Yantis reportedly went to a State Highway 154 location where her former spouse, 54-year-old Alan McLarry of Sulphur Springs, was employed. A verbal disturbance ensued, with the situation quickly escalating with the woman displayed a gun. She shot her ex-husband in the face and fled the location, witnesses told Hopkins County sheriff’s officers following the shooting Friday morning.

A medical helicopter was landed across from the SH 154 south location. Hopkins County Emergency Medical Services personnel and firefighters treated the man until the helicopter paramedics arrived to take over. Robert Alan McLarry was flown to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, where he died around 7 p.m. Friday, according to HCSO Investigator Lewis Tatum.

While emergency responders and paramedics attempted to stabilize the Sulphur Springs man’s condition, Hopkins County deputies and investigators began interviewing witnesses and put out an alert to area law enforcement, including Rains and Wood County sheriff’s departments and Texas Department of Public Safety, to be on the lookout for the suspect. Wood County officers reported that the Kimberly McLarry had been located at her residence on Wood County Road 1858.

Shortly after the notification, before HCSO officers could get to that location, they were notified that the “white female is still armed and going up to the house.” They then heard reports from the scene of gunshots fired, and an ambulance was called for a “woman down” or injured.

“The suspect fired at officers. They returned fire at her. She is deceased,” Tatum said Friday afternoon

The bodies of both Robert Alan McLarry, 54, of Sulphur Springs and ex-wife Kimberly McLarry, 47, were sent to the medical examiners at Southwest Forensics Institute in Dallas for autopsies, according to Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Funeral arrangements for Robert Alan McLarry were pending with West Oaks Funeral Home Saturday morning.

The shootings are being investigated by Hopkins and Wood County Sheriff’s Offices, Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Rangers.
