Central Baptist Church celebrating 60th anniversary this Sunday, June 28

E-mail Print PDF
This Sunday, June 28, 2009, will mark 60 years of God’s blessing upon Central Baptist Church, located at 840 Connally St.

In 1949 God led a pastor from Tyler to come to Sulphur Springs to hold a tent revival. During that meeting they decided to form a church, and in June of 1949, a church building was built in one day, services were held the next day, and Central Baptist Church began.

That was 60 years ago on the same corner the church buildings stand today, League and Connally streets. Since then, however, many things have also changed. There have been four major building projects and a few pastors and staff, but one thing still remains —  Central Baptist Church loves God and loves people.

On Sunday morning there will be a regularly scheduled morning worship service at 10:30 a.m. with special music, worship and message. Then at 5:30 p.m. the celebration begins. They will have a birthday celebration blowout with food, birthday cake, and a program written especially for the occasion entitled “Through the Decades” presented in song, drama and video.

This will also mark the 26th year the the pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Rhoades, has been with Central Baptist Church.

Everyone is invited to be a part of the special occasion.
