In celebration of 50 years of Dairy Festival Queens and the dairy community they represent, the Hopkins County Dairy Festival Board of Directors presents “Cooking With A Queen,” a collection of recipes from queens 1959 to 2009.
“The cookbook is a treasure to have and the recipes are from all 51 queens we have had over the years,” said Mary Campbell, a member of the Dairy Festival Board. “I never thought I would receive recipes from everyone, but I did.”
According to Campbell, queens past to present were very excited to be a part of the project.
“Their recipes are absolutely wonderful,” she emphasized. “They have shared family favorites from years past, and everyone will enjoy reading the little notes and stories included with their selections.”
Campbell went on to say that the publication is not your typical recipe book. In addition to the notes and stories that accompany the recipes, photos have also been included.
“This is truly a keepsake to pass down from generation to generation,” Campbell said. “It was a joy working with each queen and getting to know some for the first time as well as catching up with the ones I have seen crowned over the past 24 years.”
Their pride of wearing the crown and holding the title of Dairy Festival Queen is very evident, according to Campbell. All past queens have been invited back this year in celebration of 50 years of Dairy Festival pageants.
The “Cooking With A Queen” cookbooks are on sale for $20 each and may be purchased from any Dairy Festival Board member. They will also be available for purchase at the pageant Saturday night, June 20, or you may order them by mail by sending $25 to Hopkins County Festival Cookbook, P.O. Box 803, Sulphur Springs, TX. 75483.
