Nearly three dozen participants, representing all six model classes, took part in Saturday’s 5th Annual Dairy Festival Corvette Show & Shine, from which Paul Pruett went home with the grand prize drawing for $250 and Gerry and Linda Boren of Rockwall took home a $100 cash prize for their 1960 convertible, which won the Mayor’s Choice Award.
Event organizers called the June 13 show a “great success,” with 34 Corvettes shown, including 10 by Sulphur Springs owners and participants from 18 other cities. Brenda and David Mault were recognized as having driven the farthest, 350 miles from their hometown of Coahoma; they also earned second place in the C-6 Class which included 2005-2008 model ‘Vettes.
“Our committee really appreciates Sulphur Springs Mayor Oscar Aguilar, for helping to make this year’s show even more special. A very special thank you to the Civic Center and its entire staff for helping to make this show such a success. The front area of the Civic Center made a perfect setting for an enjoyable show,” said David Brewer, representing the 2009 Dairy Festival Corvette Show & Shine Committee.
In addition to winning the grand prize drawing, Pruett also took home first place in C-2 (1963-1967) with his 1964 coupe and second place in C-1 (1953-1962 model ‘Vettes) with his 1962 model.
Other first place winners included Gerry and Linda Boren of Rockwall, 1960 convertible, C-1 (1953-1962); Ken Smith of Dallas, 1969 coupe, C-3 (1968- 1982); Bill and Dylon Beech of Quitman, 1990 model, C-4 (1984- 1996); Tony Hughes of Sulphur Springs, 2003 convertible, C-5 (1997- 2004); and Bill Lofland of Rockwall, 2006 model C-6 (2005- 2008).
Second place finishers also included John DeVries of Sulphur Bluff, 1963 coupe, C-2 (1963- 1967); Chuck and Vicki Harris of Mineola, 1969 coupe, C-3 (1968- 1982); Bill Ruff of Cooper, 1984 model, C-4 (1984- 1996); and Jim Carter of Reno, Texas, 2001 coupe, C-5 (1997- 2004).
