Several local churches and cemetery associations host memorial and homecoming services in the spring and early summer. The following is a listing, by date of these events which have been reported to the News-Telegram:
Saturday, May 2
Miller Grove Cemetery’s annual Memorial Day services start around 10:45 a.m. and end at noon for lunch. The service will be in Miller Grove school cafeteria in the event of rain. All who have family buried in the cemetery are invited to the morning services and business meeting.
Sunday, May 3
The Annual Memorial Homecoming of Fairview Cemetery begins at 10:30 a.m. with a business meeting at Fairview Church with Murray Collins, president, presiding. Board members will be elected. Bro. Paul Newby will present the service and Sulphur Bluff Assembly of God singers will lead singing. Bring a favorite food and enjoy fellowship during the basket lunch at noon. Ridgeway Union Church’s Annual Homecoming and Memorial Day services begin at 10:30 a.m. Guest speakers will be brothers Gary Shields of Nova Scotia and Kermit Lee Shields of Colorado Springs, Colo. Psalm 100 will bring the special music. There will be a basked lunch to conclude the day.
Forest Academy Cemetery’s Annual Memorial Day begins at 10:30 a.m. A DVD will be shown. Bring a covered dish; tea provided.
The Annual Memorial Day at Sherley, sponsored by Sherley Cemetery Association, will begin at 11 a.m. at Sherley Church, located on County Road 1116, with services and continue with lunch on the grounds afterward. Bill Bradford will be the speaker. All members and guests cordially invited to attend.
Saturday, June 6
Long Cemetery Association’s annual meeting and Memorial Day Services will be held at 11 a.m. in the cemetery. After the business meeting, there will be a covered dish luncheon. Directions from Cumby: from Interstate 30, take FM 275 south 3 miles to County Road 4120; Turn right for 9/10 mile to County Road 1126; turn left 1/10 mile to cemetery.
