New ER department a TREMENDOUS asset for our community

Hundreds of people celebrated the grand opening of the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room Department Monday! If you didn’t get a chance to see the ER, you will be blown away when you do see it. They have 20 patient rooms, an isolated room with separate ventilation system, padded room, consultation rooms, waiting rooms, etc. It is truly an amazing emergency room, and we are so very fortunate to have it here in Hopkins County! Featured in the photo at right are HCMH Board Members, Emergency Room Staff, hospital staff, Ambassadors, and lots of community supporters.

Don’t Forget to VOTE!!!

Today, the polls stay open til 7 p.m. in the Sulphur Springs school bond election and City Council races, so don’t miss this opportunity to make your voice heard! Normal voting hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) will continue Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

General voting in the election will be held on Saturday, May 9th, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the SSISD Administration Building, located at 631 Connally St.


Relay for Life, May 1st & 2nd at the Middle School Track

Rain, RAIN, STay away, it can start again on Sunday!!! Relay for Life will continue as planned beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Middle School Track. Even if you aren’t scheduled to walk, it is an incredible sight to witness the Survivor’s Walk. Cancer research has come a long way, but until there is a cure, events such as this one are critical! Please show your support!


Northeast TExas Choral Society Presents “A Mixed Bag” Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd, at Civic Center

Mark your calendars for the Choral Society concert featuring songs by Queen, Tina Turner and others Saturday, May 2nd, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 3rd, at 2 p.m. at the Civic Center. Tickets may be purchased at local banks, from Choral Society members or at the door!


What to do with old cell phones? CANHelp!

CANHelp has initiated a collection program for recycling cell phones. Any unused cell phones can be donated to CANHelp at 613 Gilmer St., Sulphur Springs, Texas. (It used to be the Ace Hardware building.) For more information, call Dawn Sheffield at 903-885-9797.


Memorial Day Observance May 22nd on the Courthouse Steps at 10 a.m.

Join us on the square to recognize the men and women who have served this country and to observe Memorial Day. The Middle School Band will perform, the Hopkins County Military Coalition will fire 21 rounds, then “Taps” will be played from the balcony of the courthouse. The Hopkins County Veterans Memorial Comiittee will be organizing this event and will also provide chairs. Please join us for this special day!


Where is your Ice Cream Freezer? Pull it out and Dust it off!

It’s that time of year — the Texas State Champion Homemade Ice Cream Freeze-Off will be held on Saturday, June 13th, at 4 p.m. on the Civic Center Grounds. For more information and entry forms, either call us at 903-885-6515 or stop by our office at 300 Connally St.
