Plans have been set in motion for the Third Annual Motorcycle Fun Run Saturday, April 25, hosted by Spokes For Hope, the Sulphur Springs chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association.
Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. with coffee and donuts at Shady Lake RV Park on Highway 19 south where riders will leave from on their 80-mile trek at 9 a.m.
The cost is $15 per person or $20 a couple and includes a hamburger and hot dog lunch around noon as bikers come in from their ride.
According to Rodger Meek, former president of the local chapter, proceeds from the event will go to "Run For The Son," which provides motorcycles for overseas missionaries working in the field.
"Most of these guys have no transportation and have to walk every where," said Meek, who explained having a mode of transportation allows missionaries to reach more people by having more than one church to preach the gospel to."
The funds also provide for the purchase of bibles and their distribution, as well as Christian tracks.
"Run For The Son" also supports production and distribution of the "JESUS Film Project," a movie made in 52 languages and sent around the world, according to Meek.
"It's just a fun way for us to raise money to help these projects," said Meek, who estimated 150 plus bikers at last year’s rally. "It helps the community too. You have 150 to 200 motorcycles roll in here buying gas,food-maybe doing some shopping. It's just a good representation of the Christian community having fun while doing something worthwhile for others."
Meek explained the riders will have three designated stops throughout the morning at places along the 80-mile trek. Participants will be handed a Bible verse at each stop. Back at Shady Lake after the ride, while bikers enjoy lunch, fellowship and entertainment by Living Stones, verses will be read at random for a number of door prizes furnished by businesses throughout Hopkins and surrounding counties. If they read one of the scriptures that you were given-you win!
Top prizes include a painting donated by Danna's, a large stainless steel gas grill given by Lowes and a custom motorcycle paint job by Abercrombie Paint and Body in addition to close to 100 other gifts that have been donated.
The Christian Motorcycle Association is a world-wide nonprofit organization supported by volunteer motorcycle enthusiast dedicated to reaching people for Christ along the highways and byways of the world.
