Sulphur Springs was one of two high schools to advance to the area One-Act Play Contest, which will be held April 11, following the District One-Act Play contest held Tuesday at Texarkana College.
Blaine Surber and Brandon Fain were both named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, and Brittney Woolley and Cole Cable were named to the All-Star Cast. Morgan Lutz, stage manager, received the tech award for Sulphur Springs.
SSHS and Longview Pine Tree High School each were named to advance to the area contest in Whitehouse in two weeks based on their performances Tuesday.
“They have worked so very hard and it shows," said SSHS UIL Coordinator Gina Wilder. "The play is excellent. The critic judge offered some suggestions on improving it further, and I'm excited to see it at the area competition. I would encourage everyone to make the trip to Whitehouse to support our play. They will be glad they made the drive!”
SSHS performed "Scenes from Alice in Wonderland," a play created by the Manhattan Project and directed by theater instructor Dawn Doyle.
The cast includes Brittney Woolley, Cole Cable, Josh Bain, Jake Moreland, Kelsey Brown, Cooper Welch, Cody Morgan, Kristin Ramsey, Slaine Surber, Brandon Fain, Tiffany Stenger, Parey Draper, Caleb Brown, Travis Hicks and Anna Longino. The crew consists of Morgan Luta, Stephen Kramer, Jessica Cowley and Cassie Long. Alternates are Alissa Welch, Skyler Sinclair, Cecily Adams and Ashlyn Landers
