E-mail Print PDF

Miller Grove Elementary School’s Annual Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Roundup  began Monday, and the registration event will continue during regular school hours through April 3, in the elementary office.

Transfer applications will also be available during the roundup for those wishing to apply for admission to the district for the 2009-2010 school year.

In order to be eligible to enroll in pre-kindergarten for the 2009-2010 school year, the child must be 3 or 4 years of age on or before Sept. 1. In order to be eligible for kindergarten, the child must be 5 on or before Sept. 1.

Enrollment will not be complete without all required documentation. Parents enrolling students must have for that child a birth certificate, Social Security card, and immunization records showing the child is up to date on all shots. Parents of each applicant will also have to show proof of residency in the district, preferably a tax statement.

The school district will screen applicants to determine who qualifies for the tuition-free pre-kindergarten class. Tuition-based pre-kindergarten applications will also be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

To qualify for the tuition-free pre-kindergarten class, a child must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be unable to speak and comprehend the English language
  • Be educationally disadvantaged by meeting National School Lunch Program eligibility standards
  • Be homeless
  • Be the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military, "military" forces or a reserved component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or be the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military, (i.e.. "Military" forces or a reserved component of the armed forces), who was injured or killed while serving on active duty
  • Also, any child that has ever been in the conservatorship (foster care) of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) following an adversary hearing qualifies.

Tuition-based pre-kindergarten is also offered. Students who qualify will be given precedence. Tuition has yet to be set for the 2009-2010 school year, noted MG Elementary Principal Linda Bailey.
