A public speaking class designed for students in grades eight through 12 will be offered at the Paris Junior College-Sulphur Springs Center in June, according to Linda Bennett, director of the higher education center.
The class is of special interest to high school students since it will meet Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills requirements for a high school speech credit.
The class is currently approved by Sulphur Springs High School. Students from area high schools that are interested in this class should call the PJC-Sulphur Springs Center for information.
While designed for teen-age students, the class will be open to anyone wanting to learn effective techniques to improve presentation and public speaking skills. Interested adults, for example, are invited to enroll in this class as a continuing education course.
The course will be taught by Mylissa Hartzell, a certified speech teacher. Course content includes voice, body language and use of visual aids.
The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 8-30. For more information or to register, call the PJC-Sulphur Springs Center, 1202 West Houston St., at 903-885-1232.
