Facilities improvements and teacher contracts are among the items to be discussed and considered Monday night by boards of two local school districts. Yantis Independent School District will hear concerns and consider proposals for the ball field and action concerning a drainage ditch. They will also discuss use of “Bus Barn/P.E. Class in Regular Gym.” Following discussion on the school pre-kindergarten program, Yantis trustees will also be asked to consider taking any necessary action related to the program.

YISD Superintendent Michael Barnett is slated to give reports on the district improvement plan, needs and operations of the district, Texas Association of School Boards Summer Leadership Institute, and “proposal/quote information.” An FFA presentation is also on the agenda for Monday night’s 7 p.m. board meeting in the school cafeteria.

Other items up for board approval are extending the bank depository contract, an inter-local agreement for tax collections and a candidate for the Region VII Board of Directors.

At the end of the meeting, YISD is slated to hold an executive session to discuss contracts for an administrative intern, school counselor, teachers; proposed non-renewal  of teacher contracts;  and review of superintendent evaluation. Following the closed session, the board will reconvene in open session to take any action on those items discussed during executive session, including possible “termination/non-renewal of a probationary contract employee.”

Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, March 9, in the high school library.

That board will hear reports on career and technology activities and projects, and from principals on the summer math program and Academic Youth Development Initiative. Superintendent Sandra Billodeau is slated to discuss “the systemic planning update,” depository contract, a health screening opportunity for C-P staff and “Rider 86 distribution.”

C-P trustees will be asked to approve a resolution authorizing a joint-election with the city of Como, then to consider appointing an election judge, alternate judge and early voting clerks for the May 9 trustee election.

Bids for the roofing project are to be considered, as will be the proposed 2009-2010 school calendar, changing the date for the May board meeting and  approval of March expenditures. A report on an electronic study from Estes, McClure and Associates will also be mentioned during the business and finance reports portion of the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the school board is slated to consider the superintendent’s recommendations regarding employment and contracts of classroom teachers and other non-administrative professional staff, non-professional, paraprofessional and auxiliary staff, during an executive session. Following the closed meeting, the board will reconvene in open session to take action on those items discussed during the executive session.
