The internationally known American Horn Quartet will present two concerts in Northeast Texas during its 2009 American tour.
The group debuts the new tour on Sunday, March 8, at 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Music.
Tickets for the Mount Vernon appearance are $10 for members of Mount Vernon Music and $15 for non-members. Students and children under age 12 will be admitted at no charge.
The concert at Texas A&M University at Commerce is free to the public and will be held on Monday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall in the Music Building. The event sponsored by the TAMU-C Music Department.
The American Record Guide has called the American Horn Quartet the “finest brass chamber ensemble in the world.”
The four Americans who compose the group — David Johnson, Kerry Turner, Charles Putnam and Geoffrey Winter — have won numerous prizes as soloists at international music competitions in Europe and North America.
Unique in the field of chamber music performance, the American Horn Quartet offers an intriguing repertoire which includes not only traditional works for horn, but imaginative arrangements of works of diverse genres as well as prize- winning original compositions by members of the quartet.
The result is a refreshing new realization of the possibilities of horn performance. The ensemble continues to record concerts for live radio and television broadcast, and has produced nine compact discs which have received rave reviews.
