State Senator Bob Deuell, R-Greenville, was unanimously elected chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus last week in Austin.
He was chosen by his fellow Republicans to lead the group, consisting of the 19 Republican members of the Senate, during the 81st legislative session.
"I'm honored that my Republican colleagues in the Senate have put their trust in me," Deuell said. "I look forward to coordinating our efforts as we work for low taxes, strong family values, and efficient, streamlined government."
Earlier in February, Sen. Deuell was appointed to serve as a member of the Senate Finance Committee, the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Economic Development. In addition, he serves as vice-chairman of both the Health and Human Services Committee and the Senate Committee on State Affairs.
Deuell, who represents Hopkins County in the state senate, said he was especially pleased to retain his seat on the Finance Committee.
"My serving on the Finance Committee will continue to assure that my district and its constituents are represented in the budget," Deuell said. "With a tighter budget, fiscal responsibility is especially important, and I look forward to working with my colleagues towards conservative, responsible solutions."
Deuell will also be serving his second session as Vice-Chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.
"As a practicing family physician, I believe my background and experience allows me a unique perspective in seeing how proposed health legislation would affect people and their families,” he said.
