A three-year-old reported missing from a residence along the north service road on the east side of Cumby about 11:30 this morning was quickly located after law enforcement and first responders began a search.
The child had been had been outside playing and wandered away, according to Cumby Police Chief Scotty Sewell.
Cumby Police, Hopkins County sheriff's deputies and state troopers, along with Hopkins County Fire Department and Cumby Volunteer Fire Department, were dispatched to the area as well as Sulphur Springs Police Lt. Jason Ricketson and his canine.
There was additional concern for the child's safety because of a number of ponds in the area around where the child disappeared.
Just as rescuers were arriving to begin a search, an employee in a nearby package store reported having seen the child and, minutes later, the child was located and returned to his home.
Sewell said the child had not been harmed and had only wandered away from his yard.
