One incumbent files for SSISD board seat

Filing was off to a slow start at Sulphur Springs and Yantis schools Wednesday, the first day candidates can file to run for trustee seats in the May 10 elections.

At lunch, incumbent Tammy Cooper was reported to be the only person who had filed for candidacy in either district. Cooper is seeking a second full three-year term on Sulphur Springs Independent School District Board of Trustees. Jacquelyn Brice currently serves in the other position up for election.

Candidate filing for the two seats on the SSISD board will continue during regular business hours weekdays through Friday, Feb. 28. Applications are available from Sandra Gibby in the tax office at SSISD Administration Building, 631 Connally St.

Today was also the first day candidates could  file for the two seats up for election in Yantis ISD, those held by Dwayne Attaway and Kay Glenn, whose terms expire in May.

Applications  for candidacy in the YISD election can be obtained weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, Feb. 28, from Kristi Beech in the superintendent’s office.
