A 73-year-old Hopkins County man was killed around midmorning Wednesday when his SUV overturned several times on FM 2285 near Lake Sulphur Springs.
Police Patrol Captain Jay Sanders said dispatchers received the call about 10:30 a.m.
“Upon arrival, we found one occupant that had been ejected from a 1998 Jeep Cherokee,” Sanders said. “It appeared he was headed east into the city and in the curve he got off the right side of the roadway, over corrected and rolled over several times.”
Richard Wakeman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Sanders said it did not appear that speed was a factor in the crash.
“It didn’t look like it,” he said. “It was over-correction and no seat belt. Those two things can be deadly.”
Funeral services for Richard Wakeman are pending with Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
