While shopping garage sales last week, the victim of a residential burglary earlier this month made a discovery that led to the recovery of most of her stolen property and the arrest of the man who broke into her home.
Sulphur Springs Police Detective Bo Fox said the woman reported her find to police.
“We were able to talk to owners of the residence where the garage sale took place and that led us in the direction of David Wayne Howk, who lives on South Moore Street,” Fox said. “While speaking with him, we were able to recover a large amount of the stolen property from inside the apartment. He confessed to stealing those items back on Jan. 4.”
Howk, 51, was arrested on charges of burglary of a habitation late last week and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
Det. Fox said about 90 percent of the stolen property, including video game consoles, costume jewelry and several smart phones, has been recovered.
