One dead in early morning wreck

E-mail Print PDF

A 42-year-old Commerce woman died just before 7 a.m. this morning in a one-vehicle crash on FM 275 just north of Cumby.

Cumby Police Chief Scotty Sewell said the Chevrolet SUV she was driving ran off the roadway and the driver apparently over-corrected and struck a culvert before overturning.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Aaron Hanna identified the victim as Steffney Rena Lee-Hall and said she was ejected from the vehicle when it overturned.
First reports from the accident scene indicated the car was on fire. Hanna, however, said it appeared a small cedar tree may have caught fire from the car's exhaust and the vehicle itself was not burned.
Justice of the Peace Ronny Glossup pronounced the woman dead at the scene of the crash.
Hanna and Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Reese are investigating the fatal crash.
Funeral arrangements for Lee-Hall are pending with a Commerce funeral home.
