All Sulphur Springs High School Class of 2017 parents and students interested in helping with the Fresh Start 5K will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Pizza Inn to continue planning for the Jan. 11 event.

The Class of 2017 Fresh Start 5K will help raise funds for the SSHS Class of 2017 to be utilized later for class expenses such as prom, graduation celebration and senior activities. The Fresh Start 5K will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Kids Kingdom in Buford Park. Awards will be given by age group to winners.

The cost to enter the 5K is $25 a person. Each participating runner who registers by the Jan. 4 deadline will receive a t-shirt. Those who do not or cannot run can still show their support by ordering a Fresh Start 5K long-sleeved white t-shirts with blue logo; sizes available are small through extra large. Cost is $15. Registration forms should be returned to Fieldhouse Sports or Eydie Ginn at SSHS.

Applications have be distributed at various businesses and schools around town, and available from class officers or SSHS.

Donnie Gaddis, Sulphur Springs Independent School District Police officer assigned to Douglas Intermediate, has volunteered to lead the race on the police Kubota. Oscar Aguilar has volunteered his sound system, microphones and speakers for use at the event.

Several businesses have made contributions to help cover costs of hosting the event. Any business interested in helping to sponsor the Fresh Start 5K can do so by contacting Amanda Motes at 903-885-7155. Businesses can get their name or a small logo included on the back of the race shirts by $100, a medium logo for $250 or a large logo for $500. Business logos should be emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than Dec. 27. This helps underwrite the cost, allowing as much as possible of registration fees going to the Class of 2017 account to help with future activities. While those are the suggested sponsorships to get a company name or logo on the back of the shirt, all donations are welcome and appreciated.

Class of 2017 parents should check their email (if alerts are established) and freshman students’ Skyward notices for updates and important information related to class activities and parent meetings.
