Franklin County jury finds Wilson guilty

E-mail Print PDF

After hearing three days of testimony, a Franklin County jury took only about 30 minutes to find Clint Weldon Wilson of Sulphur Springs guilty of the murder of Juvenal Gonzales of Mount Pleasant last January.
Wilson had also been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the Gonzales murder.
After finding Wilson guilty, the trial immediately entered the punishment phase and more testimony was heard that included the stabbing death of Justin Daniel Pawlic in 2011.
In that case, a grand jury refused to indict Wilson because the circumstances involved both “stand your ground” and “Castle Doctrine” defenses.
Testimony included Wilson's alleged assault on a Franklin County jailer and two sheriff's officers.
Wilson is now facing a sentence of 15 years to life in prison on the murder conviction and two to 10 years in prison on his guilty plea to charges of being a felon in possession of a prohibited weapon.
Clint Wilson had been held in Franklin County jail in lieu of $900,000 bond since his arrest by Winnsboro police officers shortly after Gonzales was murdered.
