Hopkins County sheriff’s deputies were busy returning stolen power tools to the rightful owners after having recovered the merchandise from pawn shops in the Dallas area.
Chief Investigator Lewis Tatum said 24-year-old Lance Knotts is being held in connection with the thefts as well as a separate forgery charge.
“This guy had been committing forgeries and stealing checks from different people, then started writing checks at different businesses here in town. He knew the checks were bad, buying this equipment with the bad checks,” Tatum said. “He would then take the equipment to Dallas, Garland, Rockwall or wherever and sell it at different pawn shops and get the money for it.”
On Monday, Investigator Daniel Winn, Sgt. Corley Weatherford and Deputy Major Willis went to the Dallas area to recover more than  $2,500 worth of stolen merchandise.
Lance Knotts is being held by Hopkins County in lieu of $10,000 bond on theft charge and $5,000 on the forgery charge.
