Replacement for Brown will serve 2014 calendar year only

After meeting Monday and Tuesday mornings, members of the Hopkins County Commissioners Court have identified the steps that will be taken to fill the vacancy when County Judge Chris Brown resigns the position just after the first of the year.
“Basically, what we are going to do, the commissioners court is requesting a resume and cover letter from people interested and able to complete the current term for county judge, which is expected to be Jan. 2 through Dec. 31, 2014,” Brown said. “We are going to ask that those be submitted by Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. It is the court’s intention to appoint someone for only this next year and leave the election process for the public to decide.”
Brown said county commissioners recognize it will take a special situation for a person to be able to take the position for only one year, but that is the preference of the court.
Resumes and letters are due by 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, and should be submitted to Hopkins County Judge, 118 Church St., Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482.
Brown, who was elected county judge in 2010, was named last week to the position of executive director of Ark-Tex Council of Governments to fill the position held by L.D. Williamson.
Brown said he would be available to work with the person appointed to serve out his term.
Williamson is resigning the Ark-Tex COG position to return to Red River County, where he will be a candidate for county judge, a position he held before being appointed to the council of governments position.
