The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch Wednesday through Thursday morning for Hopkins and surrounding counties, and the watch may be expanded later if needed.

A flash flood watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding. Monitor the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

A strong storm system is expected to move through North Texas during the day Wednesday into Wednesday night. Conditions have become favorable for a band of persistent showers and thunderstorms to develop across north texas into the arklatex.

Rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches with isolated heavier amounts can be expected through Thursday morning. At this time, it appears that the heaviest rainfall will occur across a fairly narrow area.

The NWS warns excessive runoff may lead to flooding of creeks, small streams and urban areas. Do not drive into areas where water covers the road.
