If old cars and trucks strike your fancy, the downtown plaza will be the place to be Saturday for the Sulphur Springs Downtown Business Alliance’s 8th Annual Car Show.
DBA spokesman Jason Tully said as many as 120 cars, maybe more, are expected to be on display on and around the square beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
“We've had, pre-registered, 45 owners who have said they will have their cars there,” he said. “That's about what we had last year and we ended up with 120 cars on the square, so, we are expecting about that this year.”
Registration opens at 8 a.m. Saturday on the southwest corner of the square.
“We will be blocking all entrances to the square, only allowing 1987 and older vehicles that will be in the show to come onto the square to park,” Tully said.  “The registration booth will be where the water fountain is right now; [the city] is shutting it off the for us and we will have the registration booth set up there.”
There will be several categories of cars, including the Best Mopar Car, Best GM Car, Best Ford Car and the Best Foreign Car. Similar categories will feature trucks.
The auto show will also have special categories for race cars that will include Best Street Rod and Best Original Unfinished as well as categories for foreign cars.
“We've got a whole lot of opportunities to win the awards,” Tully said. “Not only that, we are one of the only shows that will be giving cash prizes. We're looking at $2,000 worth of cash prizes we're giving away.
“Anybody who registers and is in our car show will be up to win any one of four cash prizes just by drawing,” he continued. “It has nothing to do with how their car places, this just a random drawing.”
A number of door prizes will be given away along with the cash prizes.
“Anybody that has a 1987 or older car or truck is welcome, with a $20 entry fee, to come in and bring their vehicle,” he said.
