Hopkins County Treasurer Treva Watson said Wednesday afternoon that she would be seeking reelection to the office in the March primary election.
Watson has been a Hopkins County employee since 1992, beginning as assistant auditor, a position she held until she was elected county treasurer in 2006.
“Since that time I have worked closely with the county commissioners, all other elected officials and employees,” she said.
During her term as treasurer, Watson said there have been many changes affecting the county.
“These changes have been taken in stride and I have put my best efforts into implementing and accomplishing the intended outcome,” Watson continued. “Many of the changes have been at my request and been positive changes, especially those that affect the employees.
“As treasurer, I strive very hard to get the county's money in this office and receipted daily so that funds can be deposited in the bank,” she said. “Our money is invested daily in the safest, highest interest bearing accounts currently available. We also keep our business local whenever possible to support our county and local economy.”
In announcing her reelection bid, Treva Watson said she feels she has been a “very integral part of Hopkins County government.”
