A 36-year-old Brashear man was killed Saturday in a vehicle crash on FM 3389.
John Wayne Burt Jr., a disabled veteran, died at the scene, after reportedly being ejected from his vehicle, which went off the road and into a tree, according to law enforcement reports.
Authorities were called at 3:30 p.m. Saturday to a one vehicle crash on FM 3389, just north of FM 1567. Hopkins County sheriff’s deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Hopkins County and Cumby firefighters, and Hopkins County Emergency Medical Services personnel were then dispatched. The caller reported one vehicle had crashed into a tree, and one person appeared to have been ejected; no pulse was detected in the crash victim at that time, the caller told dispatchers.
Troopers, on crash reports, noted that Burt driving a 2001 Isuzu Trooper north on FM 3389 in when the car went off the road. Burt overcorrected, went off the road again and overturned several times. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report by DPS Trooper Allen Hale, who lead the crash investigation.
Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Yvonne King was called to the crash site, where she pronounced Burt dead at 4:10 p.m. The body was released at the scene to Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Quinlan Funeral Home will be handling arrangements, representatives at M&O FH said Monday.
