Sulphur Springs students and parents should make note of at least three upcoming test dates, two registration deadlines and an early release date.

Students planning to take any of three major college entrance exams — Practice SAT or PSAT, ACT and SAT — will need to register by the deadline for the next test dates.

Any sophomore or junior who plans to take the PSAT next month should get their $20 fee in to Carla Owens at Sulphur Spring High School by the Sept. 27 deadline. Enrollment is open until the test day or as long as seats are available. Signing up by the deadline not only guarantees them a seat for the Oct. 19 exam, but also entitles them to a study guide.

“This is a great opportunity to practice for the SAT and juniors can qualify for National Merit Scholar,” said Rusty Harden, Sulphur Springs Independent School District director of human resources and communications.

Friday, Sept. 27, is also the deadline for those planning to take the ACT test on Oct. 26. To register, go online to www.actstudent.org.

Students planning to take the SAT test have until Oct. 3 to register online at sat.collegeboard.org for the next test administration on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Also, parents of SSISD students are reminded to plan for an early release of classes Friday, Sept. 27. All students will be released from class at 12:50 p.m. Friday to allow elementary teachers to conduct required Title I parent meetings starting at 1 p.m., and so middle school and high school teachers can be involved in staff development exercises. All staff will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m.

As a result of the early release, SSISD buses will deliver all regular route students to their homes about 3 hours earlier than usual on Sept. 27. Buses are scheduled to leave the Gerald Prim Stadium bus hub by 1:15 p.m. to begin regular afternoon routes.

Harden urges families to adjust their schedules to reflect the early release of classes.
