Commissioners court takes jail plans on the road

With only 45 days remaining before the $16 million bond election for a new county jail on Nov. 5, the Hopkins County judge and commissioners will be meeting with civic clubs, organizations and community members in an effort to let everyone know about the plan and to answer questions about the bond issue.

   Commissioners will be meeting at noon Tuesday with Sulphur Springs Lions Club at Pizza Inn, 1320 Mockingbird Lane, to discuss plans for the proposed new county jail and the $16 million bond issue which will fund the new facility if approved by voters,  as well as answer questions.
    On Wednesday, commissioners will meet with Kiwanis Club members in a noon meeting at El Charro, 215 College St.
    Other community meetings scheduled include Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Brashear Community Center; Tuesday, Oct. 1, Miller Grove school library; Thursday, Oct. 3, Hopkins County Regional Civic Center [tentative]; Monday, Oct. 4,  Cumby City Hall; Tuesday, Oct. 15, Pine Forest Community Center; Tuesday, Oct. 22, North Hopkins school; and Thursday, Oct. 24, Sulphur Bluff.
    All these meetings are planned to start at 6:30 p.m.
    County Judge Chris Brown said anyone wanting to schedule an informational meeting on the jail plan should contact his office at 903-438-4006.
