Pickton-Pine Forest Volunteer Fire Department members went home Saturday from the Seventh Annual Hot August Night Barbecue Cook-Off Saturday with the first palce trophy for best barbecue among entries submitted by volunteer fire deparmtents.
The annual cook-off, coupled this year with a concert by country crooner Collin Raye, is designed to bring the community together for food and fellowship, while raising funds for the county’s volunteer fire departments.
First place in the “best of the rest” category, that featuring non-fire department entries, went to the Up in Smoke team for their barbecued chicken, to Alliance Bank’s ribs and to Hopkins County Emergency Medical Serivces’ brisket.
Second place “Best of the Rest” went to Smokin' Bones Barbecue’s chicken, Luminant’s ribs and Sunnyt Springs Nursing and Rehab’s brisket.
Third place Best of the Rest winners were Sunny Springs Nursing and Rehab, ribs; Hopkins County EMS, chicken; and Sweet and Salty, brisket.
