Monday night’s school board meeting opened with cheers and congratulations for KaFreddric Washington as she was presented her high school diploma from Sulphur Springs High School Principal Josh Williams, Superintendent Michael Lamb and board president Kerry Wright.
Washington, along with La’Daria Hill and Antun Walton, were announced this past week as qualifying for graduation from SSHS. Hill and Antun Walton were unable to attend the “graduation ceremony” held in their honor.
The administrators noted they are proud of these students for achieving this milestone. Each passed the needed standardized test required for graduation this summer, while also meeting all other requirements.
Now that she has her diploma, Washington plans to enroll in police academy to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Also, all results for SSHS students who took the summer retests for Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills tests and State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness tests will be mailed out soon. Students should receive test scores by Aug. 14 for TAKS and Aug. 21 for STAAR.
Lamb noted that school accountability ratings released within the last week award one of two ratings, passing or not passing. Sulphur Springs Independent School District met the passing standard for all campuses and district-wide.
He said more information about those results will be released at future date, when district officials have had an opportunity to evaluate the results and compare SSISD’s results with those of other school districts in the region of similar sizes and compositions.
