Back to School: Registration set at several schools in county

As the school year approaches — Aug. 26 for all county schools and Aug. 27 for Sulphur Springs students — campuses are busy scheduling registrations and other activities to help that first day — and week — go a littler smoother.

Below is information some local districts provided to the News-Telegram regarding registration at their schools.



Student registration for various campuses and grade levels is scheduled at various times and locations throughout Sulphur Springs Independent School District between now and the Aug. 27 start of classes.

When registering a new student in SSISD, parents are asked to bring the student’s birth certificate, Social Security card, up-to-date immunization records, report card and withdrawal papers from the previous school district, if applicable; as well as a utility bill that shows proof of residency within SSISD.

New student registration at Early Childhood Learning Center is ongoing throughout the summer. Parents may register new Head Start, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students at ECLC, 390 North Hillcrest Drive, Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 903-6170.

Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. To apply for consideration for the Head Start Program, a child must be either 3 or 4 years old on or before Sept. 1. Students must be 4 on or before Sept. 1 to apply for pre-k as well. Pre-k applicants must also provide proof of family income, such as the two most recent check stubs or 2012 income tax return for the household, and may be asked for a copy of the parent’s or legal guardian’s photo ID, doctors’ notes concerning any allergies or special health needs and custodial or other court documents.

Registration for sixth, seventh and eighth graders who are new to the district started this week, and will continue daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Middle School, 835 Wildcat Way. Extended evening registration will be  Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m. to accommodate working parents. For more information, call 903-885-7741.

New student registration will begin Monday, Aug. 12, at Sulphur Springs High School, 1200 Connally St. New ninth-12th graders can register between the hours of 9 a.m.and 4 p.m. Aug. 12. For more information, call 903-885-2158.

Parents of new SSISD first and second graders will first need to pre-register in the Elementary Education Department at the SSISD Administration Building, 631 Connally St. After pre-registering the student can register at their assigned campus — Bowie, Lamar or Travis Primary — Monday, Aug. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. during Meet the Teacher. For more information about pre-registration, call 903-885-2153, ext. 1107. Bowie Primary is located at 1400 Mockingbird Lane. Lamar Primary is at 825 Church St. Travis Primary is is located at 130 Garrison St.

Sulphur Springs Elementary, the campus which houses all third and fourth graders in SSISD, will hold new student registration and Meet the Teacher for all students from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. SSES is located at 829 Bell St. Call SSES at 903-885-8566 for more information.

Fifth graders can attend new student registration during the designated Meet the Teacher at Douglas Intermediate School, 600 Calvert St., slated from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. For more information, call 903-885-4516.

New students can register for classes for the 2013-14 school year at Miller Grove ISD anytime Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Aug. 16 and during regular office hours Monday-Friday thereafter until school starts.

Open enrollment for any pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students new to North Hopkins ISD is ongoing in the school office. Parents of those students are encouraged to enroll their children at NHISD as soon as possible, as that helps with scheduling and preparation. Registration papers for pre-k and kindergarten classes can be picked up in the main office Monday-Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
