One of the many clever posts on North East Texas Choral Society’s Facebook page says, “All it takes is one song to bring back 1,000 memories.” If you’ve been to one of their semi-annual concerts, you’ll know the statement is true.
If you’ve ever wondered how it feels to sing in front of an audience, now is your chance to join them in performance.
“We’re holding open auditions in my office next Saturday,” said Carol Allen, the group’s musical director. “From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.”
Allen tries to make the process as painless as possible.
“Auditions are always a little scary,” she noted. “You’re not sure the voice will be there. You feel a little stuffy or your allergies are acting up or you’re just afraid to sing before the ‘dum-da-dum-dum’ director.”
If you have prepared something you’d like to sing, that’s OK, but, if not, Allen will help you with a tune that puts your voice in the best light.
“You don’t have to sing an aria,” she said. “You don’t have to be perfect, but you need to match pitch accurately and carry your part. While the ability to read music is helpful, it’s not a prerequisite.”
NETCS’ Christmas program is planned for the first weekend in December. This year’s concert is “Joy to the World.”
“It’s Christmas music you love and know by heart,” Allen said.
Auditions are set for Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the choir room at First United Methodist Church, 301 Church St. in Sulphur Springs. All are welcome.
“Come and experience the most fun you’ll ever have,” said Allen.
