SULPHUR SPRINGS – The 2009 Relay For Life Committee extends an invitation to cancer survivors and their guests to a Mardi Gras dinner to kick off the 2009 American Cancer Society Relay For Life. The survivor’s dinner will be Friday, Feb. 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. “Every survivor is invited, whether they were diagnosed yesterday or 20 years ago,” said Joyce Davis, RFL survivor recruitment chairperson.
“At Relay, and at the Survivors’ Relay Kick-Off Dinner, everyone understands the challenges that cancer survivors have overcome and there is peace of mind knowing that together we can face the challenges ahead,” said Mynder Nash, survivor recruitment co-chair and cancer survivor.
Relay allows communities to celebrate the lives of those who have survived their personal battle with cancer.
RFL offers the newly diagnosed an opportunity to meet someone who has survived the same type of cancer. For the cancer patient in treatment, Relay provides an opportunity to share with others. For the long-term survivor, Relay is a chance for the community to recognition their struggle and a chance to help find closure to a trying time in their lives, according to Jennifer Philo with RFL.
Cancer survivors are asked to please RSVP their attendance as well as that of guests they plan to bring to the dinner to Mynder Nash at 903-885-6633 or Joyce Davis at 903-885-6176 no later than Tuesday, Feb. 17. This will help event organizers have an accurate headcount for planning purposes.
