Any Sulphur Springs students planning to receive “credit by exam” this summer have about three weeks to register for the next test.
A credit by exam or CBE test may be taken either for remediation or advancement purposes. To get credit for a failed course the student must receive a grade of 70 or higher on the CBE. To get credit for a class for which the student has received no prior instruction for advancement purposes (take the test so they don’t have to sit through a year/semester of the class), the student must score a 90 or higher on the CBE for that particular class.
Schools are required to post a registration and test schedule for all CBEs for a full school year. Sulphur Springs Independent School District administrators announced the 2013-2014 CBE dates at the June school board meeting.
“We try to go by these dates, but if there is a conflict, we do try to work with students and parents to try to modify that date,” SSISD Assistant Superintendent Randy Reed told school trustees.
Students must contact their school counselor by the registration deadline, which is at least 30 days prior to testing dates.
The next CBE, the first for the new calendar, will be administered Aug. 7. Those planning to take the test will need to register by July 8.
To take the test on Thursday, Dec. 5, students must register by Nov. 4.
Testing dates in 2014 include: March 5, June 11, and June 12.
For more information, students/parents should contact the student’s school counselor.
