Give blood and go to a Rangers game

E-mail Print PDF

Two local businesses will host blood drives later this month to help bolster Carter BloodCare’s supplies through the summer, when demand is high and donations are low. As if helping save lives wasn’t enough, Carter BloodCare and the Texas Rangers are offering a sweet deal to give basebll fans an extra incentive to become blood donors through the Back Yard Rewards program.

In June, those who give blood with Carter BloodCare will receive a special, online-only ticket offer for 50 percent off select seating sections from the Texas Rangers. Donors will also be entered to win suite tickets. For details, visit www.BackYardRewards.org.

People earn points for whole blood, double red cells, platelets and jumbo plasma donations at all Carter BloodCare Donor Centers and all blood drives except high school blood drives. Potential rewards vary by points amassed from keychains and T-shirts to mugs, ice coolers, gift cards, iTunes cards, umbrellas and more.

Over the next few weeks, locals will have two opportunities to give blood.

Sunny Springs Nursing and Rehab, 1200 North Jackson St., is hosting a blood drive Monday, June 17, from noon to 3 p.m. in the parking lot. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Denise McCarty at 903-885-6571.

Lowe’s, 1711 South Broadway St., is hosting a blood drive Saturday, June 29, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Steve Carmody at 903-438-3000, ext. 800.

Potential blood donors can volunteer beginning at age 16 with a parent’s consent, and 17-year-olds can give independently. There is no upper age limit for giving. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present a photo ID each time they give. It’s also a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before giving blood.

For more information about donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call Carter BloodCare at 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
