MGHS names McCreight, Steele top seniors

Katelyn McCreight has been named valedictorian and Kelsey Steele salutatorian of the Miller Grove High School Senior Class of 2013.


The valedictorian is the daughter of Bryan and Ginger McCreight.

She’s earned numerous academic and athletic honors for her extracurricular and other activities while attending MGHS.

McCreight has been involved in Future Famers of America, National Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decision Making. She also competed in academic UIL.

She played golf, was on the volleyball team, ran cross country and played softball. She won first place in district in golf in 2010, 2012 and 2013, was regional golf champ in 2013 and a golf state qualifier in 2012-2013, and named All-State in golf in 2013. She also received the Miller Grove High School Hornet Award.

Her interests include golf, piano, music, shopping and volleyball.

McCreight’s plans for the future include attending Texas A&M University-Commerce, where she’s been admitted to the Honors College. She also plans to play on the women’s golf team in the fall. She’s pursuing a degree in accounting and finance.

Salutatorian Kelsey Steele is the daughter of Chris and Kathy Steele.

She too has been involved in and earned honors for her accomplishments in extracurricular actitivities and sports. She’s also served in leadership positions in various activities as well.

Steele served as president of the National Honor Society, class president and was involved in Students Against Destructive Decision Making. 

She was on the school volleyball, basketball and softball teams, played golf and ran cross country and track. She was named Honorable Mention in basketball and volleyball, Academic All-District in volleyball and basketball, was a regional qualifier in golf, made Second Team All-District and was named Setter of the Year in volleyball.

Steele was also named Basketball Sweetheart, Homecoming Queen and Prom Queen.

She competed in Academic UIL, including the One Act Play competition, and was a regional science fair qualifier.

Steele’s interests include sports, music, interior decorating, church and being with friends and family.

The salutatorian’s future plans include attending college to pursue a degree in business.

Steele and McCreight, along with the other MG graduates —  Ryan Dougan, Christopher Fodge, Cameron Gray, Ricky Guerrero, Forrest Hinton, Titus Lehman, Derek Millard, Toriegh Petrea, Caleb Schones, Zachary Shepherd, Grayson Smith, Quinten Stovall, Mackenzie Taylor, Levi Thiela and Spencer Woodall — will be honored at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, with a commencement ceremony in the Miller Grove gym.
