A Paris truck driver has received several traffic citations and his insurance company is facing thousands of dollars in damages following an incident on Oak and College streets just after midnight, according to City Manager Marc Maxwell.
“About 12:30 a.m. we had a lost truck driver that ended up on Oak there where we are doing construction at Jefferson,” Maxwell said. “He decided to try to back out and managed to take a street light, stop sign and road closed barricades all at the same time.”
Maxwell said damages would total about $15,000.
“The light itself is about $10,000, not including the labor,” he said. “Then there is the stop sign and it’s not just your average stop sign.”
One of the final steps in the completion of the downtown plaza was the installation of a number of high definition cameras and one of those cameras recorded the event and with that information, it did not take long to find the driver.
“We knew who it was within minutes and in a couple of hours we found him,” the city manager said. “He got a few citations, and we are working an accident report so his insurance can pay for the damages.”
Maxwell said the video is now posted on the city’s Internet website: www.sulphurspringstx.org and above.
