If you enjoy a good fish dinner or are interested in helping Yantis seniors further their education and in encouraging excellence among students and staff, stop by Yantis school Saturday.
The Masons of Yantis Lodge 382 will be hosting their 17th Annual Fish Fry in the Yantis school cafeteria from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (or until they run out of fish) May 4.
“Once again, we will be serving a mouth-watering all-you-can-eat fish dinner with all the fixins — coleslaw, French fries, etc. — plus iced tea and dessert,” said Gordon Krantz, Yantis Masonic Lodge 382 secretary. “We also will have ‘take out’ boxes available. As in years past, the cost of the meal is ‘donation only.’ Although there is a suggested $10 minimum, everyone is encouraged to come to Yantis on May 4, and enjoy a freshly prepared fish dinner.”
All donations from the fish fry will once again go towards Yantis Masonic Lodge 382’s scholarship and building funds.
In 2012, Shayna Garrett received a $1,000 Yantis Lodge 382 scholarship. They also recognized teacher Holly Long as a recipient of the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award and senior Ty Davis an Outstanding Student. Garrett was among the top 10 percent of the 2012 Yantis High School senior class and Davis graduated as 2012 YHS salutatorian.
“We have already chosen the 2013 scholarship recipient, plus we will be recognizing two additional students and one teacher with Lamar medals for outstanding educational achievement at the Yantis ISD Awards Banquet on June 6,” Krantz noted.
The fish fry is one of two events the Yantis Masons hold each year to raise funds for local causes. They also hold a turkey shoot annually just before Thanksgiving, with proceeds going toward operating expenses and to fund charities supported by Masons in the Yantis and East Texas area.
