Arvis and Sheila Tanton, 2012-2013 Lights of Life Campaign and Gala chairs, officially passed the chairmanship torch (Lights of Life signature gala tree) off to the 2013-2014 Chairs Mary Bonham, Rhonda Adair and Kristin Potts Tuesday in the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital lobby.
“This is our first time to have three generations to chair the campaign and we are thrilled to have the dynamic trio of Ms. Mary Bonham, her daughter, Rhonda Adair, and granddaughter, Kristin Potts,” said Jackie Thornton, foundation director. “We are certain Ms. Mary, Rhonda and Kristin will do an outstanding job and will most likely raise the bar again.”
Adair said, “While we are honored and humbled to have been asked to chair the campaign, we know there is a lot of work behind the scenes that takes place. Having served on the gala committee the past several years, I know the level of commitment by the gala committee and the dedication and hard work of past chairs. They have created big shoes that we will try our best to fill.”
The Tantons said they will be active in continuing to support the foundation and the gala.
“Sheila and I wish them lots of luck, and of course, we’ll be around to help them however we can. However, it sure will be nice to be guests again‚” said Arvis, with Sheila agreeing.
“Mom, Kristin and I are already thinking of new ideas to make the 2014 campaign and gala another fun and memorable campaign. We are shopping for a new band, deciding on a theme for the gala, which we plan to share with the committee at the first gala committee meeting planned for May 21,” Adair said. “Chad (Young) and I served as chairs of the very first Lights of Life tree lighting when no one really knew what it was all about. I can definitely say the campaign has come a long way from the $15,000 we raised that first year to the over $234,000 raised last year with Arvis and Sheila as chairs
“We’re setting a very aggressive goal of $250,000, but I believe with the continued generous support of the sponsors and community we will reach that goal‚” continued Rhonda. “While we and the foundation board of directors are still deciding on what project we will fund this year, we know the gala proceeds will be adding another valuable asset to the hospital and the community.”
The Lights of Life campaign will kick-off at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the hospital lobby. Memorial and honor donations of $25 are made to help light the Lights of Life tree. Each donation is represented by a light on the Christmas tree that is placed in The Gardens at Memorial Hospital. The tree lighting event is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. in The Gardens.
The Lights of Life Gala is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. It includes fine dining, dancing to a live band and bidding on live and silent auction items.
