Domino enthusiasts will want to mark this Saturday on their calendars. A 42 tournament is scheduled April 27, and although the event is being held at the Senior Citizens Center, the event is open to any two-person team willing to try its luck.
“We’ve had a 42 tournament at Fall Festival, and want to do one in the spring, too. If it goes over, we’ll make it an annual tradition,” said Karon Weatherman, Senior Citizens Center director and tournament coordinator.
The event offers cash prizes for the first, second and third place winners. The amount will be determined by how many participate. The prize money will come from entry fees, so the more who enter the bigger the prizes will be.
The fee will be $25 a team at the door, but a special $5 discount is offered for those who register ahead of time. The fee is only $10 per person through Friday. Contact Karon Weatherman at the center or call 903-885-1661. Teams can also mail their name, address, phone number and an email address to Senior Citizens Center, 150 Martin Luther King Drive, Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482, provided its posted in time to arrive by Friday.
Teams should bring their partner, dominoes and a card table to the SCC Saturday in time for the 1 p.m. start. Those who don’t have a card table can let Weatherman know in advance to reserve one of the limited number of tables available at the center.
“The more teams, the more they can win. So, bring a partner and encourage them to bring friends to compete. We won’t know how much prizes will be until we know how many people are in the tournament. We’d like as many as possible to register in advance so we’ll have a better idea how many to plan for and how much we’ll have to give,” Weatherman said.
Play will be round robin, straight 42.
Denise McCarty and Sunny Springs will be helping to provide food so competitors can enjoy food and snacks during the tourney. Glenna Durr is assisting Weatherman in running the contest.
