Candidates for seats on the Sulphur Springs City Council along with unopposed candidates for Hopkins County Memorial Hospital District Board and Sulphur Springs Independent School District Board of Trustees will be the focus of Hopkins County Democratic Women’s political forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in the board room at the SSISD Administration Building, 631 Connally St.
City council candidates to be featured include Place 4 incumbent Freddie Taylor and challenger Charles Oxford and Place 5 incumbent Gary Spraggins and his opponent Emily Glass.
Although unopposed, hospital board candidates Joe Bob Burgin and Ralph Pruess are expected to participate in the forum.
Three unopposed candidates for the three at-large seats on SSISD Board of Trustees will also be on the forum. The school baord candidates include Leesa Tolliver and incumbents John Prickette and Kerry Wright.
Clay Johnson, who currently holds the third seat, is not seeking another term on the school board.
This forum differs from those in the past in that candidates will take questions directly from the audience rather than responding to written questions.
Early voting in the elections will begin Monday, April 29.
