Five Saltillo Family Career and Community Leaders of America students earned recognition for their participation in Leadership Enhancement Opportunities contests at the 2013 State FCCLA Leadership Conference in Dallas.

Leadership Enhancement Opportunities or LEOs are objective tests given to FCCLA members at the fall leadership training, regional and state FCCLA meets. Students can test at all meetings, but can only take one test at each meet. Categories students can test in include child development; consumer math; consumer quiz; creed, mission and purpose; culinary arts; education and training; etiquette; hospitality; interior design; job interview; parliamentary procedure; and step one.

All LEO testers receive a participation certificate. Those scoring 85-100 receive a gold medal, 54-70 a silver medal and 55-69 a bronze medal.

“We received two silvers, one in creed, mission statement and purposes, and one in child guidance; and two golds in child guidance; and one participant award,” noted Johnna West, Saltillo teacher.

Earning gold medals were Katlyn Gurley and Moresa Shelby. Silver medals were earned by Ariel Tippit and Ragan Rutherford. Monika Wartenbee also participated in the state conference Thursday, April 11, in Dallas.
