Miller Grove Independent School District recently approved a calendar for the 2013-2014 school year, which includes 10 teacher work and in-service days and 177 instructional days. The new calendar is contingent on a waiver granting the extra staff development days.
Staff will report for the 2013-2014 school year Aug. 19, giving them a full week of staff development days before students report to their classes Aug. 26.
The district has scheduled two additional staff development days during the first semester, Nov. 25-26, which would give students a full week off for Thanksgiving. School personnel are scheduled for three additional staff development days during the second semester of the 2013-14 school year. Teachers will report for duty Jan. 6, 2014, with students reporting for spring classes Jan. 7. Feb. 20 and June 9 are also staff development days.
MG has also scheduled nine school holidays — days everyone, MG students and staff alike, will have off. They include Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day; Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 27-29, for Thanksgiving; Monday, Dec. 23-Friday, Jan. 3, Christmas holiday; Monday, Jan. 20 for MLK Day; Friday, Feb. 21 for Presidents Day; Monday-Friday, March 10-14, for spring break; and Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day. Bad weather days are set for April 18 and May 23 — if not used, students and staff will have those days off.
Grading periods are as follows: Aug. 26-Oct. 4, first six weeks; Oct. 7-Nov. 8, second six weeks; Nov. 11-Dec. 20, third six weeks; Jan. 7-Feb. 19, fourth six weeks; Feb. 24-April 17, fifth six weeks; and April 21-June 6, sixth six weeks.
