Sulphur Bluff Parent Teacher Organization is a busy group dedicated to helping school students and staff. They are currently accepting applications from SB seniors for the PTO Gene Landers Scholarship.

Seniors may obtain a PTO scholarship application from Judy Jones. The scholarship has been increased this year to $1,000. Two scholarships will be awarded.

PTO also contributes funds which help pay for educational field trips via the Accelerated Reader program. They have pledged part of the funds the sixth, seventh and eighth graders need so they can visit the Holocaust Museum. The students are tasked with selling water park raffle tickets to help make up the difference.

The organization also purchased 20 caps, gowns and tassels for the school to use each year for pre-kindergarten graduation starting at the end of this school year.

PTO often holds fundraising events to help generate the money for these and other projects to help the school out.

For instance, a recent lunch fundraiser at Fix ‘n’ Feed generated $500. Because of it’s success, the business has agreed to allow the PTO to host another fundraiser at their location in mid-May, PTO officers report. More details about this will be announced at school closer to the event.

One of the new items to be considered during the May 1 PTO meeting is a proposal to purchase neon-colored T-shirts for elementary field trips. PTO will also be discussing the possibility of providing stipends for teachers to begin next year so that they will be able to make plans for their classrooms this summer.

PTO officers urge all PTO members and any interested in participating to be at the school for the May 1 session, the last meeting of the year.
